About Chabad of The Main Line

Chabad of The Main Line has become a popular center for Jews of all backgrounds who want to learn more about their Jewish roots. Located in the heart of Pennsylvania, Chabad offers a wide variety of educational and spiritual opportunities, including Torah classes and lectures, Shabbaton dinners, and an array of family and social activities. Traditional Jewish values are brought to life in a joyous, non-judgmental atmosphere.

Chabad serves all segments of the Jewish community. Everyone is welcome regardless of their personal level of religious observance. The philosophy is in keeping with the Chabad-Lubavitch approach of joy, scholarship and unconditional acceptance and love for every Jew.

Chabad is under the spiritual guidance of Rabbi Sherman, a warm, caring and energetic individual, who formed the congregation many years back. The rabbi's approach is that Torah must be presented and experienced in a modern, relevant context and made available to each individual on their own level. Rabbi Sherman and his wife are emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson.

The services are traditional, and are conducted in a joyous, casual atmosphere. Children are included and most welcome. Many of those who attend cannot read Hebrew, yet everyone feels at home. The prayer book is bi-lingual and various English readings are included in the service. Song and commentary add meaning and participation to the prayers.

An important part of our community is the weekly Kiddush Luncheon that follows the Shabbat morning services, where friendships are created and nurtured and we celebrate each other's happy occasions and anniversaries.

Our Philosophy

The Chabad Center for Jewish Life at the General Wayne Inn is founded on the principle that, while Jews embrace many levels of observance in their personal lives, there should be a place for all Jews- no label, no affiliations. We feel that every Jew, regardless of upbringing, religious inclination or level of knowledge, has a right to the tools that bring a greater understanding of what our mission is as Jews, thus learning how to experience Judaism in a way that brings substantial meaning to existence.

Through understanding what the Torah and Mitzvot represent, and gaining a deeper appreciation of our history, we can, together, come to realize the significance of our relationship with G‑d, find our place as Jews, and fulfill our destiny.

Our Mission
  • To accept, nourish, welcome, include, love and appreciate every Jew.
  • To create a warm, inviting and non-judgmental environmenin which to explore and experience our heritage.
  • To be a resource center for Jewish families, assisting them in creating a home-based Jewish environment, one mitzvah at a time.
  • To create a positive experience for all Jews as they strengthen their ties to the Jewish community.
  • To make available to every Jew the opportunity to learn, pray, grow, understand, be fulfilled, and experience joy.
