Yizkor - A Sacred Moment of Remembrance

Yizkor, the special memorial prayer for departed loved ones, is recited in the synagogue four times a year on Passover, Shavuot, Yom Kippur and Shemini Atzeret.

The Meaning of Yizkor

The word Yizkor literally means "remember." In this solemn moment, we beseech G-d to remember the souls of our departed relatives for good. We renew and deepen the eternal bond with those who have passed, bringing merit and elevation to their souls in the heavenly realms.

The Act of Giving

At the heart of Yizkor lies a personal commitment to give charity after the holiday in memory of the departed. By performing a tangible act of goodness in this world, we extend the influence of our loved ones’ lives beyond their physical existence. Their souls are uplifted when their memory inspires us to continue their legacy of kindness and good deeds.
